Art Tips Needed // Examples Inside

Postby Royale » Wed Jan 04, 2017 5:19 pm

Hello!

I'm sort of a beginner artist, I suppose. I don't have many techniques yet except for the circle as a base. I need advice on how to draw ears, hair and eyes. I focus mostly on wolves but humans are good too! I don't use many refs but when I do they usually turn out okay. I'd still like to focus on drawing without refs.

Any advice and tips are greatly appreciated but I'd prefer it if you gave constructive criticism rather than hey your art sucks lol. I'd like any techniques you use, no matter how unusual!

Thank you. ^^

Example;;

First is the ref I used; he belongs to Oliver
The second is the result
The third is warmups

Use refs! They will help you in the long run. There's sorta a stigma about using reference photos; don't listen to it.

From what I can see, you might want to work on side views. Look at real wolf heads, look at the position of the eyes and the slope of the forehead, and apply it to your style. The eyes should be slanted and closer to the forehead, like this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/73 ... 9ae07a.jpg

I hope this is somewhat helpful :)

The frilled shark, commonly called a 'living fossil'. Modern sharks don't look like this prehistoric beast. It grows to be 7 ft and has around 300 teeth.
