The Passing of Tilikum

Postby Widdershins » Mon Jan 09, 2017 11:32 pm

Tilikum passed away three days ago, at the age of 36. It might be a little cheesy to say, but he inspired so many- including me.

I suspected Tilly's death for a while now- Seaword announced that he was having health problems a while ago- but it still came as a shock. He was suffering from "a persistent and complicated bacterial lung infection" (USA Today). In the wild, male killer whales often live into their 50s or 60s. Females can live past their 90s (an example of this was J2, or Granny, a female killer whale who passed away at around 105 years old). It is sad that Tilly had a rather short life.

I am just glad that I got to see him in real life when I was around 9 years old.

Rest in Peace, Tilikum.
